Child's Age
Essential Number Concepts are critical for students to develop in their primary years starting as young as age 3. We agree with many math educators that number concepts, and in particular part/part/whole relationships, are the foundation for number sense. We also believe that Operations are best presented to young students after the student has demonstrated a grade-level appropriate understanding of number concepts. While the diagram below illustrates many childrens' path of math development, it is our job as educators, parents & caregivers to observe our children, discover their gaps in understanding, and help them stay on track to become our future mathematicians.
