Age 7-9
During these years, students develop a firm understanding of our base-ten numeration system. They are able to flexibly think about numbers and compose and decompose them in many different ways. When given a word situation to solve, students will draw pictures, act out the problem or write an equation to solve the problem. There will be some students who will still struggle with these concepts. It is crucial to provide these students with models and time to develop the number sense needed to be successful.
