Available Now!
This book provides teachers with information about the essential early number concepts. Teachers can then provide the activities in this book to help students construct knowledge of these essential number concepts. Also included is a CD with all of the blacklines needed for the activities in the book.
This would be an excellent book to use for differentiated instruction in the classroom. A must for Intervention Specialists.

Bears and Chairs

Bears & Chairs are a colorful, engaging, interactive manipulative. Through structured play activities, as well as through free exploration, children will learn the following skills:

Pre-number Concepts: Matching Sorting Comparing Ordering

Counting Skills, Positional Words and Imaginative Play

Pre-number concepts and counting skills are prerequisites to learning numbers meaningfully. Children will build on these concepts to understand the important mathematical concepts they will later learn in school.

There are 20 chairs, 18 small bears, 2 large bears, 2 medium bears and a booklet with activities.

Chairs for Bears

The chairs come in four different colors but that is not all… There are a total of five or six different chairs in each package.  The backs and seats are also different so when the child is sorting there are many different attributes that can be used.  This container has 100 chairs for the teacher or parent who may already have the bears.  This container also has a booklet with activities to use with the chairs.

These chairs can also be used on their own for matching, sorting, and ordering activities.

Play Mat for Bears and Chairs

This laminated mat makes an excellent addition to your Bears and Chairs.  Young children can use the mat to build numbers 1-6.  The children can use imaginative play while waiting for dinner.

Zoo and Inside Zoo Math Mat

This two-sided laminated mat has a zoo on one side and the inside of the zoo on the other.  Students can use the mat for free play and then teachers and parents can use the activities included to extend the student's understanding.  Students can create their own addition and subtraction problems by using the Bears and Chairs.  An activity guide is included with activities to build conceptual knowledge and problems to solve based on the addition and subtraction situations written for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2.

We recommend using this mat with the addition and subtraction situations that are presented in the CCMS on page 89.  Young children can act out these problems when solving.

Cave for Bears

This laminated two-sided mat provides young students the opportunity to build the conceptual understanding of addition and subtraction problems.  The mat allows the student to act out the problem before the addition or subtraction symbol is introduced.

We include a sheet with addition and subtraction situations written for kindergarten, grade one and grade 2.

Classroom and Playground Math Mat

This two-sided laminated mat can be used to help students act out math problems.  The new Common Core addresses different types of situations that students need to be able to solve.  We have written problems to go with these situations.  The mats can be used with the Bears and Chairs.  Students can build conceptual understanding while having fun with this mat.

Tables for Chairs

This two-sided laminated mat can be used with Chairs for Bears.  The student can act out problems for addition and subtraction, making the problem more conceptual for the student instead of using equations.

The mat has two tables on the other side so students in Grade One and above can work on comparing problems.  The mat comes with an activity guide that has addition and subtraction situations written for kindergarten, grade one and grade two.

Bears In Beds

This two-sided game board is a perfect match with Bears and Chairs.  One side of the game board has five beds and the other side has ten beds.  The game is played with either five or ten baby bears.  The student shakes the bears and then looks for bears that are sleeping and puts them to bed.  The object of the game is to fill up the beds.  Asking questions, helps the student build the important relationships to five and ten.

99-100 Boards

This whiteboard is printed on both sides.  On one side there is a 99 chart and on the other a 100 chart. The two charts have different fonts so young children can see the differences in some of the symbols (4 and 9 for example).  The squares on the boards are one inch which allows the teacher to use Number Concept units or pentominoes for covering activities.

We provide an activity guide to help with activities to use with these boards.

We also have pentominoes for sale.  These fit on the board and can be used for creating puzzles for students to look for relationships of one more, one less, ten more or ten less.

1-120 Board

This whiteboard is printed on both sides.  On one side there is a 120 board and on the other a blank board.  The boards can be used with students to help them with counting beyond 100.  The Common Core wants students in kindergarten to be able to count to 100 and in grade one count to 120.  We made these boards to help the first grade student.

Pentominoes

These colorful plastic pentominoes can be used as puzzles to help students build the important relationships of 1 more, 1 less, 10 more or 10 less on the 100-99 board.  There are 12 different shapes in each package.

Pentominoes are formed by 5 one inch squares connected along an edge.

5-10 Frame Boards

This dry erase panel is printed on both sides.  On one side there is a 5 frame and on the other a 10 frame.  These boards can be used  whole group, small group or for individual work.  The boards allow the teacher to help develop the numbers connecting the word, symbol and quantity. The boards come with an activity guide with sequenced activities for each side, helping the student build the importance of five and ten.  We recommend these boards for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and for intervention at grade one.

We also have one and two-color counters available to use with these boards.

One-color opaque counters

These colorful plastic counters can be used with the 5/10 frame boards.  The come in four colors and there are 200 counters in each package.

We recommend using the one-color counters with Kindergarten students.  We recommend giving each student 20 counters in one color.  During the year the students will use the counters to build important relationship to five and ten.  The counters can also be used when the teacher is helping students understand that the numbers 11-19 are ten and "some more".  Two different colors can be used by students when important part-part-whole relationships are conceptually being built (e.g. 3 red and  2 green built on the 5 frame show 3+2=5.

10-Double 10 Frame Boards

This dry erase panel is printed on both sides.  On one side there is a 10 frame and on the other a 20 frame.  These boards can be used in whole group, small group or individual work.  The boards allow the teacher to help develop the numbers connecting the word, symbol and quantity.  The 20 frame board is an excellent tool to use to help students when they are working on addition facts (make the 10).

The boards come with a sequenced activity guide to help when planning activities to use with the 10 and Double 10 frame boards.

2-colored counters

These foam two-colored red and yellow counters can be used for part-part-whole relationships.  Using the 5 frame boards, 10 frame boards or 20 frame boards help the student build the relationships to five and ten and also the important concept of "make a ten" when adding numbers.

They are packaged in sets of 200.  It is recommended that each student have a set of 20.

Interactive Number Line

This dry erase number line has 11 velco dots to be used with small dry erase rectangles.  The kit also contains plastic links for building the numbers one to five.  This number line was developed to allow children to constuct different line segments from a traditional number line.  Examples:  numbers 0-5, 0-10, 10-20, count by 5s, count by 10s, fractions, decimals.

Excellent for teachers to use when working on the relationship of comparison.

We have a two page activity guide to use with this Interactive Number Line.  The 1-20 number line is an excellent tool for each student to have because it mirrors this interactive number line.

1-10 Number Path

This two-sided dry erase panel is an excellent visual model for students in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade to use to learn about the relationship that numbers have to each other.  It can be used for problem solving and for learning about a number line.

1-20 one-inch square Number Path

This whiteboard number path is printed on both sides.  This is also a good beginning number line for the young student.  On one side, the student has a path that shows the count pattern of 1-20.  On the other side the path is empty.  The student can use the number path for solving addition and subtraction problems. Each square is one inch so most manipulatives can be placed on the mat for counting.  The activity guide has activities to provide direct instruction.

1-20 Number Path/ Line

This two-sided dry erase panel has a 1-20 number path on one side and a small version of the Interactive Number Line on the other.  This would be great for each student to have so the number line can be learned and used for problem solving, with addition and subtraction problems.

We recommend this tool be used by  grade two and grade three students.

Part/Part/Whole Mats

One of the essential number concepts that students need to understand is the relationship of parts to wholes.  This needs to be developed beginning in pre-kindergarten and continuing in kindergarten, grade one and grade two.  With this understanding, students can look at numbers in many different ways and be flexible in their understanding.

Time Number Line with Analog and Digital Clock

This dry-erase board was created to help students understand time.  We have an activity guide that has systematic lessons beginning with the understanding of the hour and conclude with activities that ask about am and pm and elapsed time.

We recommend this board for Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3

Tens and Ones Place Value Mat

Two-sided dry erase mat allows students to build the conceptual understanding of our base ten system using quantity to understand the relationship of ones to tens and tens to hundreds.

On one side we have a double ten frame to allow students to “make a ten” by exchanging ten ones for one ten.

An activity guide is available with sequenced activities to use with the place and value mat.

Hundreds, Tens and Ones Place Value Mat

Two-sided dry erase mat allows students to build the conceptual understanding of our base ten system using quantity to understand the relationship of ones to tens and tens to hundreds.

On one side we have a double ten frame to allow students to “make a ten” by exchanging ten ones for one ten.

An activity guide is available with sequenced activities to use with the place and value mat.

Fraction Number Line

Build the understanding of fractions using the activity guide and this fraction two-sided board.  We have activities that are written systematically to guide instruction.

We recommend this board with grade 3 and grade 4 students.

Decimal Mat to hundredths

Two-sided dry erase mat is used so students build a conceptual understanding of decimals.  The mat allows the student to make the relationship of decimals to fractions and also to see the quantity of the hundredths and tenths as related to the whole.  The place value mat can be added on to allow the student to build a full understanding of our base-ten numeration system.

We recommend this mat for students in grade 4.

Decimal Mat to thousandths

Two-sided dry erase mat for students learning about thousandths, hundredths, tenths and wholes.  One side of the mat has the decimal symbol representation and the other side is the fraction representation.  The student can learn about the word, symbol and quantity of decimals.  The place value mat with hundreds, tens and ones can be laid next to so the student can build a full understanding of our base-ten numeration system.

We recommend this mat to students in grade 5.
